Average Annual Income of Cell Phone Tower Repair Technician

A climber is a technician who performs maintenance and repairs of radio poles and towers. They scale cell towers that can be 500 feet or more, and maintain cell towers, change transmission lines, improve lighting systems, power channels or antennas. Sometimes maintenance is more routine, like replacing a light bulb.

This is not a typical task because you work hundreds of meters in the air in dangerous conditions. Therefore, you must be able to identify potential hazards, such as strong winds and storms, and adhere to strict equipment inspections to ensure your workplace is safe. You spend most of the time outside in any weather, so you can be exposed to extreme cold or hot air. Hours can be long and unpredictable, with early starts and long shifts of 10 hours or more. You also have to travel between jobs - some radio masters spend 50 to 80 percent of their work day in a large area.

This is a dangerous job, but it works. Their average cell phone tower repair salary is $ 44,250. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 10% of the minimum income is about $ 26,200 per year. The highest payment rate is over $ 67,000 per year. Every hour, the bottom is $ 12.60 per hour and the top is $ 32.53.
